It's Here!

Please, please, PLEASE- Click me to get a bigger view!
(Or view it at my DeviantART Page at Link!)

It's finally done! I won't say I'm completely happy with it, but what artist is ever completely happy with their work? I'm working with a new shading style, and broke out with a full background. The shading is no where near perfect, but it's a step in the right direction of what I'm going for.

Comments and Critiques always welcome and appreciated!

PS: I promise I'll have a proper post soon- there's been a lot going on!

It's coming....

And it's taking FOREVER. I've been hard at work on my current illustration project, so I've not been in a blog updatey mood. Not a whole lot has been going on here recently anyway.

I'm seriosuly stepping up my art game with this piece though. It's coming out soooooo well. I've been doing a lot of thinking recently about my art. I have a lot of regret I let it fall to the wayside for so long. If I can draw this well now, how good would I be if I'd been working on it for the past 4 years? It's kind of mind boggling. I mean, I did art for class. I did several sets of costume designs. And I never stopped doodling. But full on, focused finished works were not something I took the time to produce. I almost wish I'd gone to art school. Almost... (Art schools aren't real great after all!)

I'm considering perhaps venturing further into the art world some day. I'd really like to maybe be able to make a little money off of my talents. I've always wanted to be do illustrations for books, especially children's books. One of my professors in college, Judith, really seemed to think this could be a viable career option for me. Maybe I'll look into it?

For now I'm just working on making art. It's slow going as I'm learning a new medium and programs, and building up my drawing and coloring stamina again. I used to be able to color for literally hours and hours on end- not so much right now! I'm also looking into buying an inexpensive laptop, something with a large screen, very light in weight, and lots of memory, with which to do art on. It'd be very, very nice to not have to be tethered to the desktop at all times. I'd love to be able to go over to a coffee shop, or the library, or my grandparents house and work there. I need to get used to working in public anyway! We'll see!

As I'm off work tomorrow, I'll be heading down to Barnes and Noble to look at their art books. I'd like to see about finding some that will help with with my techniques and grasp of the digital art programs. Can't wait!

More Apartment Upgrades, and Another Dragony Update...

Yesterday was quite fun! Matt's tax returns came in, and while the majority of it will be going towards credit cards, we decided to use a bit of it to get a few of the things we needed! SO yesterday Matt and I went out for a day on the town.

First up was JC Pennies in the mall- A couple weeks ago I bought us some rugs for bathroom and an ice tea maker for the kitchen. Since we're not drinking soda anymore, we tend to go through tea quite fast... The tea maker is very convenient, and it comes with a 3 quart pitcher!

The pitcher is very sturdy, and the tea it makes is quite delicious! I'd really recommend it. We were hoping to come across a second pitcher to buy at Pennies, but I guess we'll have to buy one online! No one seems to carry them.

After that we headed over to Barnes and Noble, and I finally bought the discount section soup cook book I've been resisting for two months now. It has loads of really tasty looking recipes, and every single soup has a nice simple photograph showing off what it looks like. Perfect!

After a nice lunch of Sushi ( two salmon rolls and a avacado roll for me! Yum!) we headed over to Best Buy. Both of our keyboards have been sticking badly, and my mouse has been on the fritz. It likes to skip across the screen a random. Since I'm no longer playing WoW, I hardly need a complex gaming mouse, and I was wanting to find a nice, small, wireless keyboard that would be easy bto move out of the way if I wanted to draw at my desk.

We had found a keyboard that I liked but it was too big honestly. I really didn't want all the extra buttons or anything, and almost all of the keyboards had those giant wrist-rest thingies. But we ended up going to the other Best Buy then we usually do and they had this!

It's TINY! And wireless! And perfect! My only complaint with it so far is that because it is so tiny, the arrow keys have been shifted over and moved under the shift key on the right hand side. It's not really a problem, but my hand likes to slide over to get to them where it thinks they're going to be. I should get used to it in no time though.

Last but not least we went to Walmart in Edmond. The Walmart right near our house is absolutely terrible, so we often try to go to the Edmond one when we need anything other then groceries (I go to the Neighborhood Market for that, it's less crowded). We got ourselves a bronze canister to keep the sugar in. We had a pair of canisters for the flour and sugar when we lived in Stillwater, but one of them took a dive off the top of the fridge and cracked. We just tossed both and have been suing the sugar out of the bag for the last 4 months. No more!

And here's a shot of our master bathroom with the rugs and new over-the-toilet stand we bought yesterday! This really frees up space in there, getting a lot of stuff off the counter (Making room for the water pic I bought for Matt a while back) and giving us a place to keep the bath towels in the bathroom! It's really nice to have more storage in there, and the freed up space in the hall closet from moving the towels gives me more room to keep some of the lesser used kitchen things in. Woot!

And last but not least, here's a work in progress shot of the drawing I've been working on!

Yay Dragon!

Afraid of the Dark....

Last night was a bad night. Matt and I were up late watching Doctor Who. And I mean reeaaaaalllly late. Like 3:30 late. Unfortunately the episodes we watched were kind of creepy. Creepy for me is bad!

So I couldn't sleep. This happens every time I watch anything even remotely scary. One would think that since I know this, I would avoid watching anything scary. Unfortunately they would be wrong! I love creepy things, and especially documentaries like "A Haunting" or "Ghost Hunters". I will sit there in front of the television, scared out of my mind, glancing around the room horrified, but completely unable to turn it off. It's just so darn interesting!

This usually leads to a serious lack of sleep. Sometimes I can stay in bed, though it will take me hours to finally fall asleep. And of course I'm completely burrowed into my blanket; all except for my nose poking out for air. Why I think this would protect me from monsters is beyond me....

But it's the required 'afraid of the dark' sleeping position! Of course, your body knows this and for some reason responds by raising your temperature about 40 degrees so your as uncomfortable as possible! This leads to nights like last night, asleep on the couch with the TV on for light protection.

It's really not monsters that scare me per se. Vampires don't bother me, zombies are mostly 'meh', and I actually like werewolves. But ghosts, demons and spirits are another story entirely. I think it's because they aren't physical entities that frightens me so much. I could deck a monster in the face- that doesn't work as well with a ghost! The idea that something could be in the room that I can't necessarily see is highly disturbing to me. I'll lay there and think about it, ending up replaying the creepy images in my head over and over again. Eventually I end up getting up and dozing on the couch with the lights and TV on. It's my only defense.

Cause monster's can't stand late night Netflix.
